Hola Family and friends,
Wow! I have already been here for over 3 weeks! The days are so long here haha I do not understand how its been over 3 weeks already. Anyway this week was really hard but it was very rewarding as well. I am learning so much here about myself and about how to become more like my Savior Jesus Christ. Their are a couple specific things I would like to write about today.
The first thing i would like to talk about is the atonement. I decided last night that I wanted to learn and understand the atonement at a deeper level. So in order to do that, I asked my teacher, Hermana Martinez(she is my favorite teacher btw) about how I could deeper understand the atonement. She brought up a great point I hadnt really explored enough before. The atonement is not only for obvious sins, but it is also for daily life where we fall short emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually. Here is an example. Yesterday I got a letter from my Mom and I loved hearing from her.
Letters mean a lot here. But once I got into class I started feeling pretty sad about being away from home and I almost started to cry. I had to right then and there pray to my Heavenly Father to help me. I wasnt committing any blatant sin by missing home yesterday. But I did fall short emotionally, and needed help from God. God was able to give me that hope, and through me asking God through prayer in the name of Jesus Christ I was able to become strong enough through Him to be able to do what I need to do.
The next thing I want to mention is Candyce thank you for the package and note a week or two ago, things like that mean a lot to me so thank you!
I had another really spiritual experience this week I want to share. So this other district came into my zone last week. And last Tuesday or so this girl in the other district in my zone was crying in class. I didnt know about this, but the teacher from my district and the other district that the new hermana was in decided to have an activity where the two districts paired up for a question answer activity to grow spiritually and maybe find some comfort in a new place. So the hermana that was crying and I got paired together. My teacher assigned me to go with her. I was able to really connect with her and help her in a real way and the spirit was really strong. I enjoyed that very much. Feeling like I was truly helping someone. Thats why I am here, to help people through the Gospel and my Savior Jesus Christ.
Anyway, thank you for all the emails, dear elders, and just everything. I read them all and they are all extremely appreciated.
Love, Elder Burris
